                 The Murder of Twins

Imagine a world where the birth of twins is met with hostility and grievous action! A community murder. 


Until the mid-1930s, the birth of twins was widely viewed as bad omen and luck by the people of southern Nigeria. Twins where routinely killed by abandonment in bushes known as 'the evil forest'. A large swath of jungle where lawbreakers, taboo subjects, victims of leprosy where sent to.

The village shaman or Chief priest is then mandated to cleanse the land by offering sacrifices to placate the gods. This practices persisted especially  until it's abolishment after vigorous effort by Mary Slessor a missionary who took it upon herself to educate the people on this despicable practice.

Known as the mother of twins sustained vigorous effort on her part to end this double fracticide yielded result as the government outlawed the killing of twins.
In the town of ....a monument and stature to this great missionary is seen. A lasting reminder that culture is dynamic and even rigid beliefs can be changed .
